Mother of tofua’a Art Print by Luca Tu'avao Walton

Sale price$69.00

Inspired by Luca's motherland of Tongatapu, this work reflects the island's place at the heart of major whale migration routes, where thousands of whales return each year to Tonga's warm waters. The traditional whalebone corsetry references the history of whaling in the early twentieth century.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Luca Walton

Luca Tu'avao Walton is currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau, the “Polynesian capital of the world”. Born in Lautoka, Fiji, to a Tongan mother and Kiwi expat father, Luca’s paintings are a reflection of his heritage, cross-cultural identity and incredible childhood surroundings - the beautifully vibrant Kingdom of Tonga.

Luca draws inspiration from this unique upbringing, and the strong Pasifika women integral to life; his softly spoken traditional Tongan mother and his three older sisters, who all hail from different island nations, illustrate the value of family, and exposing him to the beauty that the Pacific has to offer.

Luca intends his art to be a love letter to these important Pasifika women who continue to demonstrate unique strength and beauty.
