The K ārearea is an endemic bird of prey, the only Falcon found in New Zealand. NZ Falcon are known for their speed, agility and sharp eyesight. Their short, rounded wings allow them to manoeuvre quickly through thick native forest. Falcon symbolise ambition and aspiration, freedom and victory. A K ārearea feather worn by Maori warriors, implied they were as fierce and reckless as the Falcon.
