About this print
Inspired by nostalgia, Luca illustrates the motifs he fondly remembers from everyday life in the Islands. Wild kuli, roadside stacks of moli and tomatoes, and hibiscus blooming from a nearby tree become visual reminders of home. Each piece captures the familiar sights of leisurely walks back through the village; the cluck of chickens, coconut fronds swaying in the breeze, and the distant sound of aunties beating tapa bark. At the end of the journey, there's always a welcoming slice of fresh watermelon waiting to be shared.

About the Artist
Luca Tu'avao Walton is currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau, the “Polynesian capital of the world.” Born in Lautoka, Fiji, to a Tongan mother and Kiwi expat father, Luca’s paintings are a reflection of his heritage, cross-cultural identity, and incredible childhood surroundings—the beautifully vibrant Kingdom of Tonga.
Luca draws inspiration from this unique upbringing, and the strong Pasifika women integral to life. His softly spoken traditional Tongan mother and his three older sisters, who all hail from different island nations, illustrate the value of family and exposed him to the beauty that the Pacific has to offer.
Known for illustrating nudes, Luca intends his art to be a love letter to these important Pasifika women, who continue to demonstrate unique strength and beauty.
