About the Artist
Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand Floral Artist Georgie Malyon has pursued a career for over 10 years dedicated to working with flowers. Malyon has taken it further in creating a series of photographic images that fuse together two enduring universal motifs within human culture – the dark and the light, the ephemeral beauty of flowers combined with the symbolically loaded skull.
These works depart from the notion of Memento Mori, (Latin for remember you will die), functioning as a potent and persistent emblem of mortality and resurrection: the constant flux of the life/death/life cycle.
Flowers and skulls punctuate the overall composition, creating a harmonious balance. The hand-painted skulls are produced from scratch and the images are handcrafted with a aesthetic that embraces the subtle beauty of imperfection.
