About the Artist
Justina Bisset aka Maku, comes from a family of artists, born and bred in the quiet seaside town of Devonport, Auckland. When she was a child she chose the name Maku for herself after her grandmother Makurata, which means 'dew drops on the rata tree'. Maku's whanau hail from Waimana, and are very proud Tuhoe people. Her artwork tell stories and is an avenue for her to share her Māori heritage and the culture with others.
