Originally from a small town in upstate New York, Cady Kuzmich uprooted herself to move to Aotearoa in 2018. Cady has taught herself lino-printing and has explored her love of analog collage using vintage photos dating from the 1930s to the 1970s. From hunting down vintage photos, to organizing and sorting through hundreds of photos to find just the right match, she loves every messy step of the hand-cut collage process.
Her love of old films and the outdoors shine through in her work. Cady’s experiences driving across the United States, living in Alaska, tramping through the Adirondack Mountains in New York, thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and tramping the South Island portion of the Te Araroa Trail here in New Zealand are all clear influences in her art. Cady’s past lives include working as a print journalist, children’s advocate, kayak guide, and domestic violence victim’s advocate. She is now embarking on a career in secondary education. She lives in Auckland with her partner and their dog.
